The Glass is not just the final container for wine but an important instrument for communicating it to the human senses.
The ideal one must be clean, uncolored and must have a stem so that the taster can hold the glass without affecting the wine’s temperature. Thanks to the stem, the wine can also be easily rotated into the glass to enable and maximize aroma or bouquet.
For many householders, a single wine glass shape and size will do, perhaps supplemented by smaller glasses for fortified wines and an elongated one – called “flute” – for sparkling wines. There are different glasses for different sorts of wine – Full-bodied reds, light-bodied reds, full-bodied whites, light-bodied whites, sparkling wines and dessert wines.
